In 2004 Costco was forced to open all its Gas stations to non-members. Yes, you don't need their membership to pump gas. New Jersey Law does not allow so-called Gas clubs and is also one of the only states where gas is full service. You don't have to pump your own gas.
"Costco's membership requirement violated New Jersey laws regarding fuel sales, state consumer," Official stated back in 2004 and was widely reported in the press.
Not many people know this secret. Costco is not the one advertising this to sell more gas. They don't make their money from gas by selling discounted gas. They can offset their lost profits in gas from products sold in the store and come out ahead.
After the 80 dollar gas bills shock, I got Premium gas at Costco. The gas price was $3.15 for Premium = Full Tank cost me $63. $17 difference is way too much to overlook.
You hear people say lines are long, but they move fast. The best days to go get gas at Costco are Tuesday/Wednesday. Plan your trips and use this savings benefit. It adds up quickly.
